My final year collection 'Áilleacht Aitiúil' is inspired by the West of Ireland's landscape and nature. I took photos in a woods called Belleek Woods near my home in Ballina, Co. Mayo. I used these photos to develop my own printed surface design fabrics. I am inspired by Irish heritage and crafts- I incorporated the craft of Hand Knitting into this collection working with yarn that is made from recycled Polyester which supports my theme of slow fashion and sustainability and using Irish Wool from the Irish company 'Donegal Yarns' who have kindly sponsored me.
Processes used in this collection:
1. Hand Knitting
2. Shima Sheiki Knitting
3. Digital Printed Textiles
Hand knit yarn sourced from "the wool and the gang" called new wave yarn made from recycled Polyester. Supporting sustainability.
Shima Knit wool sponsored by Donegal Yarn, Irish 100% wool. Supporting Irish Jobs and companies.
